Yay! Our home grown rock'n'roll saviours are still alive and kicking and still showing the rest of the world how to rock!

Having just announced their latest world tour in support of the 'Black Ice' album, the boys promise to bring us the 'most expensive and eloborate rock show in history' since their last world tour for 'Stiff Upper Lip' in 2000.

We still have copies of the extremely limited tin box set edition of 'Black Ice' and we recommend any die hard fans to come in and snap one up before they're gone for good.

Remember Christmas time when you were a kid - the extended family in your backyard, BBQs and drunken adults? You loved seeing your slightly strange uncle. The one with the piercing and the tattoo of the stoned tuna. He was different to your Dad, mysterious, exciting, a little dangerous. Well, imagine if there wasn’t just one uncle, but two of them, and instead of Christmas it was your local beer drenched rock and roll venue. And instead of this entire laboured metaphor, it was BAD RELIGION AND NOFX! The two slightly weird uncles of punk, coming to our backyard together!

NOFX and Bad Religion. Sharing a stage. We’re talking political and socially aware diatribes wrapped up in tight-as-f**k punk rock. They’re older than you, and they rock a lot harder than you ever will. Kind of like your drunk uncle.

RENOVATIONS - DONE & DUSTED

Alright, it's been a long year for us at 78's. We've gone through massive renovations and now we'd like you to come see how good we look!

While we have lost the upstairs merchandise and book area in the changeover, we are channelling that energy into allowing us to focus on a greater music selection, with an emphasis on newly pressed vinyl records.

We have also upgraded our Punk and Metal section by devoting a whole area of the shop to Punk and Metal music, posters, vinyl and merchandise. Also we have started ordering from labels Missing Link Records and Poison City Records of Melbourne to expand our catalogue of Australian acts from over east.

As we reach into the new year with a new lease on music retail, we hope our loyal customers of the past 38 years will continue to support us in these new ventures, as well as attracting a new generation of music lovers to share our love of collecting great music.

Propagandhi have done it again with another superb album. Full of bone crushing thrash punk coupled with mature song writing, this album packs one hell of a punch, showing their move to a heavy sound without comprimisong any of their unique style. The lyrics are still as activist orientated as ever (and do i detect a hint of humour?), true to the Propagandhi style. For those of you that missed the show just recently, don't be worried, buying this album will make up for your moment of temporary insanity.(But you still missed one awesome show!)

Hidden away for 15 years, appreciated only by audiophiles and DJ's, good old vinyl is now back on the rise as a new generation retaliates against the evil that is digital recording. All of us here greatly support this resurgence and as such, have drastically increased our vinyl stock and with many more orders on the way. We now stock 2000+ titles on vinyl, with opportunities to order in specific titles for punters. We also stock record player acessories such as Stylus(Needles), Turntable belts, and gramophone needles.

With many new albums being released on vinyl every week, we look to stock as many as possible, with an emphasis on the high quality 180 Gram editions. Many new albums also come with a free CD of the album, or a digital download code to be able to copy the album to your computer or mp3 player. This allows you to enjoy the humble activity of spinning records at home while still being able to listen to all your music while on the move.

THE BLUES SECTION FROM HEAVEN

78 Records has always been associated with good blues music. One of the reasons we opened was so that we could import rare blues albums for personal use.

We still carry a huge range of blues music. From the primitive sounds of the 20's, the country blues of the 30's, the early electric sounds of the 40's, the awesome Chess recordings of the 50's through to the twin revivals of country blues and white blues of the 60's. From there the music seemed to go down a myriad of paths, some merging with other musics, all adding to the varied and healthy blues scene we have today.

The pictured CD contains what is arguably the first electric blues release recorded as a complete album, in September 1965. (What were you doing then?) Prior to this, blues albums were simply collections of singles and their B-sides.

This album features Buddy Guy and Junior Wells at their blues peak with incredibly moving playing. A very influential album, it showcases the sparks that fly when Buddy Guy and Junior Wells got together to play their own brand of tight, tough soulful blues music.

To put it simply, "it's a killer".
